Once God had placed me in a gospel driven and centered community, He began to grow my faith. He was transforming me into the image of Christ: building me up in love, in joy, in humility, in the fruit of the Spirit. With this continued growth, God had really blessed me with being able to also partake in the growth of others. I was seeing growth and transformation in the lives of those around me, adding to my abundant joy. Along with this growth came many questions, causing me to dive into Scripture to seek out answers. After all, when it comes to faith, if you have a question, the best place to find the answer to that question is within God’s Word itself. The question, “Why am I living for Christ?” is something I consistently began to ask myself. Not in a sense of doubt; rather, a deep yearning to know more about the faith the Lord had given me. So, the answer to this question (for His glory) is the next destination on The Journey.
For some time I never really understood why I was living this new life for Christ. I just knew it was happening, and I was content with that for some time. However, it is of extreme importance that any believer not remain in this state. God has given us His same Spirit, thus revealing Himself to us. In other words: God has allowed us to dive into a deeper relationship with Him, allowing us to understand more and more about Him.
“But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—
these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”1 Corinthians 2:7-13 ESV
So, finally getting to the question, why was I living for Christ? What was the purpose of everything I was doing, am currently doing, and will do? The answer is rather simple. My objective was for the glory of God. No longer was I living in the world for myself; rather, I was living in the world for the glory of the Father.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.Colossians 3:17 ESV
All believers, all disciples, are called to live lives pursuing the glory of God. No longer are we to prioritize ourselves, but we are to prioritize the Savior. Whatever we are doing, our foundational mindset should be, “How can I give glory to God right now?”. That question is what every disciple should ask themselves frequently.
What does giving God glory look like you may be thinking? It simply means to live for Him! Whatever you are doing, you should be doing it with Christ at the center. You are abounding in Christlike love for others, extending Christlike grace to others, taking up your cross, all with the glory of God as the ultimate goal. This ultimate goal of God’s glory actually initiates the start of a mission, and this “mission” will be our next destination on The Journey.
